Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in power within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward Timmony in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
