Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The anticipation around The Game Awards was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
