TikTok is introducing a fresh option that enables them to reduce the amount of AI-made media appearing in their streams. This move comes as the platform announced that it now features over 1 thousand million AI videos.
Trial and Implementation
This change is in a pilot phase over the coming weeks before a widespread release. This development coincides with a rise in content created by AI, driven by recent AI video creators.
AI Content on Other Platforms
Recent reports that approximately one in 10 of the most rapidly expanding content creators on a popular video site primarily display AI-generated videos. A significant portion of this material is deemed low-quality AI content, a term for poor-quality, mass-produced content that is typically nonsensical or bizarre.
Based on user feedback that many people like content created using AI tools, ranging from computer-generated images to educational videos, and we aim to offer the community the ability to see more or less of that, based on their own preferences,” stated a platform representative.
Volume and Proportions
TikTok disclosed that there are currently over a billion videos on its service identified as artificially created. Collectively, more than 100 mn videos are submitted to the service daily, making AI-generated material a minor part of its total content library.
Customizing Your Feed
Viewers will be able to decrease or raise the volume of AI content they watch by accessing the topic control feature in the platform and selecting AI-made media. Other topics that can already be controlled under the tool cover current affairs, fashion, cosmetics, and movement.
AI Disclosure Rules
TikTok’s guidelines oblige content makers to tag “realistic” AI-generated content, and it bans malicious AI impersonations of celebrities or critical incidents. Any believable AI-generated clip that is unmarked can be taken down under its user guidelines.
Furthermore, the service will from now on attach an artificially created label to content made using its proprietary AI systems, or identified by an cross-platform project for recognizing artificial media. This measure is designed to deter users from trying to bypass the labeling process.
Responsible AI Funding
The company is furthermore establishing a $2 million AI literacy fund for professionals and organizations to develop informative material about responsible artificial intelligence. This initiative will support non-profit groups dedicated to training coding and technology.
Platform Protection
The platform has justified its safety measures, following discussion over plans to make redundant hundreds of review team members in Britain. The company is set to cut a significant number of roles in its trust and safety team in London, with worker representatives and digital protection specialists expressing worry that humans are being replaced by AI moderation.
A trust and safety lead clarified that people-led review would continue to be important, but artificial intelligence can shield workers by removing the most distressing content before it has to be seen by people. TikTok stated a notable drop in explicit and harmful content reviewed by safety staff over the last 12 months due to reliance on its AI tools.
We believe it is crucial to integrate people and machines to ensure user safety,” the executive stated. “We’ll have humans as integral to the approach, but we further consider it’s extremely critical to minimize viewing of dangerous material as rapidly, which is why a significant AI assistance is making a difference work at speed.”
